5/8/2011 - This was NASCAR's response to the Harvick and Busch Incident at Darlington "It's been a good weekend here at Darlington. There was a lot going on."Tharp added that he does not think the drivers are getting out of hand in this era, begun last year, in which NASCAR officials essentially have told them to police themselves on the track."I think the drivers have done a real good job managing it. I really do," Tharp said. "There may be a time when we need to step in and talk about some things. We had a couple of those occasions this weekend -- but I think they way they have conducted themselves on the race track in general has been really good. There is a lot of competition going on. The competition has probably never been better than it is in the sport right now. Getting into the Chase [for the Sprint Cup], getting those race wins is important to all of them. As you can see from this statement nothing will change until someone is seriously injured or killed. What a response and what a shame.

"I think the people here at Darlington [Saturday night] saw a heck of a race. We had a first-time winner in Regan Smith. You saw a lot of good cars up front running, and a lot emotions flying at the end of the race. This is a tough race. It's 501 miles and four hours on the race track, and it'll test your nerves."

5/8/2011 - Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch had problems at the end of the race and were called into the NASCAR trailer after the race. Kyle wrecked Kevin on a restart and hit his car again and pushed it into the wall while they set on pit road after the race. This incident put the Ryan Newman and Juan Paublo Montoyo to rest until they get to Dover next week everyone will be talking about Kyle and Kevin. Nascar should have parked Juan last week and Kyle this week but they want do anything to either of these drivers. It gets back to Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch both intentionly wrecking Brad Keselowski last year and trying to kill him and they did nothing to them. This sets a bad example for the drivers and sooner or later one of them will get killed and then they will spend a billion more dollars trying to make the sport safer for the drivers instead of taking action when it starts to nip it in the bud before someone is seriously injired or killed. They should tell all of the drivers one last time that intentionly wrecking another driver want be tolerated and park the next one that does it for the rest of the season. The 2nd offense should get them banned from racing. This would get them back to good clean racing again. If the fans want to see dirt track racing let them go to a dirt track and watch it. This is racing at the highest level and should be held to tthat standard. Clean it up NASCAR before the sport looses another driver or more fans are injured or killed.

1/10/2011 - Brian Vickers, who was forced to take a medical leave of absence from the Sprint Cup Series last spring, will make his first laps in one of his # 83 Red Bull Racing Team stock cars at Walt Disney World Speedway in Orlando, FL.today.

1/7/2011 - As a result of the Daytona tire test all drivers agreed that the new surface would have the cars running in tighter packs throughout the course of the race. “The Shootout is going to be crazy. It’s going to be nuts. It’s going to be wide open every lap, every time. When you decide to go, what hole you decide to go into. Yeah, I’m not going to say you’ll have more wrecks because you never know, but the possibility to have more big wrecks is certainly looming.” All drivers agreed that the chances for the “Big One” were increased by the new surface and it’s packing of cars in draft lines. Former Champion Bobby Labonte, said, “The spotters are going to be even more important with the new surface.”

1/1/2011 - Juan Montoya will stay in the Cup Series as long as Chip Ganassi will keep him under contract. He has no plans to return to any other form of racing. The up-coming season could be the determining factor in how long he will stay.If he doesn't win and make the Chase this could be his last season in this sport.

1/1/2011 -Jimmie Johnson and the #48 team will start this season as the team to beat again. This is the best team in this series at this time and they have 5 straight championships to back this up. Jimmie,Chad, Lowes, Hendrick Motorsports, and the crew that they finished the season with in 2010 all return to start the 2011 season at Daytona. Denny Hamlin and his #11 crew have had time to reflect on areas that they could improve and time to develop a plan for the new year. They had only a few minor changes and should be one of the teams that will go after the #48 team again this year.Kevin Harvick and his # 29 team have a new sponsor but kept everything else in place and look to be another team that will pose a problem for the #48 team. Jeff Gordon and Carl Edwards may also give the #48 team a run for the money but none of the other teams appear to be consistent enough to take this championshp away from Jimmie Johnson. This could easily be number 6 if the other drivers and owners don't put 100% into every race this season.
